Celebrating yourself as a 50+ black woman. Celebrate your authenticity, personal growth, empowerment and inner strength.

If you have yet to celebrate yourself, it is time to declare unapologetically that this is your time to thrive and live your best life. It is said, “Life is a journey, not a destination”. And what a journey you have had. You have gained valuable lessons, conquered challenges, acquired knowledge, self-assurance, perspective and resilience. All worth celebrating considering how far you have come, attaining a multitude of commendable attributes, namely:

Confidence

You have earned your PhD in life to become a resilient, fierce woman. Fierce in the positive context and not its negative definition. Finding your voice to say what you want. Refuting stereotypes and defying expectations. Doing what you want and love to do. Upholding that inner beauty is the true beauty. Embracing self-acceptance, empowering the self and finding a life purpose.

Creator, Protagonist

Acknowledging you are the creator of your life, owning your story. Putting your needs first and foremost and responsible for your emotional and physical health. At 50+, you regard yourself as not invisible in a society that often overlooks older women. You stay relevant in whatever way that means for you. Whether living by your values, pursuing your passions, and no longer sweating the small stuff.

Passion

Believing in a cause or a life goal that brings you purpose. Impassioned by the love of a partner, family and friends. Hobbies, community involvement and volunteering.

Gratitude

Valuing the fortitude, mental strength, and indomitable spirit essential to conquering the adversities a black woman encounters. Being alive and in good health, God willing, at 50+, is a blessing. And knowing that a grateful person is a happy person.

Wisdom

Becoming a wise woman earned from a lifetime of life lessons and transitions.

Ultimately, for those yet to celebrate and honour themselves, utilise the adage ‘time is precious’. Now, in the present, is always a good time, and not just the New Year, to pause and prioritise. Acknowledge and revel IN BEING YOU.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year 2025.
