The timeless power of love songs to communicate emotions.
We all have our favourite classic love songs. Unforgettable is ‘I Will Always Love You’ (Whitney Houston). ‘Endless Love’ (Lionel Ritchie & Diana Ross). ‘I’m Still in Love with You’ (Al Green). ‘Signed Sealed Delivered’ (Stevie Wonder), to name a few. In some cases, expressing love is far more explicit.
14th February globally is Valentine’s Day. Women favour it as a day they want to feel extra loved and appreciated. The mood for romance is best if held at home with romantic music. Preferably, their love story song, if they have one, evoking love, excitement, and/or nostalgia.
The difference between a ‘hyper-romantic’ and a ‘romantic’ is that the former desires the heady bliss of falling in love to endure. Remember days of anticipated phone calls that fluttered the heart and Stevie Wonder’s song ‘I Just Called to Say I Love You’?
Conversely, 50+ women believe romance is not a one-day occurrence but should be consistent, even if less heady. However, romantic dinners, flowers and chocolates are welcome any time of the year.
They consider the epitome of love to be a partner who reliably shows their love through a hug, a kiss, a cheeky wink or a smile. Partners who make time for them, are concerned about their day and pay attention to what they like. Partners who do not shy away from family and friends, cater to their needs, support them and want to be part of their dreams. He talks about the future and plans it with them. ‘Buy Me a Rose’ by Luther Vandross exemplifies these sentiments beautifully and poignantly.
They know from experience that personal faults and negative baggage become exposed over time. Disagreements are inevitable and communication and respect are key, as Aretha Franklin’s famous song, ‘RESPECT,’ emphatically states.

Valentine’s Day aside, other genres of songs emphasise what women want to hear on a date night, birthday, anniversary, or ad hoc day and they are always welcome.
Love songs and music are remarkable in their ability to induce profound emotions.
